Great news! Seoul, the capital of S. Korea, is proposing a bill to end the dog and cat meat trade. The City Council is aiming to have the city of Seoul set the pace for the eradication of dog and cat meat for S. Korea.
The bill was authored and introduced by City Councilmember Kim Ji-hyang on May 30th, 2023, and will impose a maximum of 5 million won ($3,780 USD) on businesses selling dogs and cats for food in the city.
LCA and ALW (Animal Liberation Wave, LCA's S. Korean Sister Organization) are at the forefront working to get this bill passed. On June 12th, ALW facilitated a meeting with City Councilmembers Kim Ji-hyang and Choi Ho-jung to release a statement demanding the fast passage of the bill.
The Seoul City Council needs global support on this issue.
